Activities in Switzerland

DSP Ltd has its own maize breeding program for silage and grain use. The main goal is to develop maize hybrids adapted for cultivation in Switzerland and in northern and middle Europe. A particular strong point of the program lies in the group of early silage maize. In the last few years, a number of varieties have been registered which belong to the best of recommended variety lists of Switzerland and of neighbouring countries. The intensive testing of the varieties under Swiss growing conditions pays off for maize producers by means of yield performance and yield stability.

Nurseries are installed in the surroundings of Delley, an intensive screening of the lines for disease resistance and stress tolerance is carried out in Nyon and in Alsace, too. The hybrids are primarily tested at multiple locations throughout Switzerland, from the second phase, additionally at numerous locations abroad. In these field trials, the DSP maize breeders are collecting data for a successful selection of the future varieties.
